Magnolia Park Blog - July

July has been a very busy month here at Magnolia Park, as the summer finally arrived in style with the whole month bathed in glorious sunshine, exceptionally warm temperatures and less than 5mm of rain! Whilst the endless days of hot sunshine have not been great for the golf course, the Greenkeeping team have battled the conditions well and given all our members and guests a course to be enjoyed.

With the schools finishing up for their summer break we have also seen a lot of visitors out on the FootGolf course as children, and adults, have been getting out enjoying the sunshine and the challenge of the fun game.

Friday 27th July saw the Captains Charity Golf Day take place raising money for their chosen charity, Thomley, with 18 teams of four taking part in the golf competition and helping Richard, Paul and Jenny raise a staggering £5,371 on the day! The monies raised on the day will pay for the summer staffing at Thomleys and all three Captain's were blown away by everyone's generosity.

Following the golf all the players enjoyed a wonderful 2 course meal in The Magnolia Suite after which our Special Guest Auctioneer, none other than BBC Radio 2 presenter Ken Bruce, paid a special tribute to Thomleys and the amazing work they do before commencing on the charity auction. With some cajoling and words of encouragement Ken managed to extract over £3,500 from the crowd as they bid on some fantastic lots.

It was then over to Men's Captain Richard Harris and Senior Captain Paul Lankester to address the players to announce the winners of the day. During his speech Richard thanked Paul for partnering him in completing 180 holes of golf in one day from 4:30am to 9:30pm on 30th June, and in doing so raised £140.

Winning the Team Stableford event were "The Ex-Neighbours" team of Graham & Pam Robinson and Jim & Linda Gaskin. Second place went to "The Crendon Crumblies" of Mike Penford, Tom Elson, Alan Lovell and Ronwen Lovell. Third place was the team from "Sadler Talbot" of Kevan & Janine Stirrat, Bob Darvill and Andy Thomas.
